No electricity, no internet, no problems!

A lot of people have sent us letters asking us how we spend our time at night when we don’t have electricity, internet, TV, and aren’t able to watch our typical 2 movies per night. Well, it usually starts with a fire outside and Derek chopping a lot of wood, one of his self-proclaimed favorite pastimes (and while writing this he requested I refer to him as a camp fire wood assassin), while Murphy and I lounge around, reading a book and relaxing in the hammock. As it starts getting darker, Murphy starts whining because it’s past his bedtime and he wants to go back in the camper, so we put out the fire, head inside and Derek starts making dinner (I make a concerted effort to offer to make dinner but I swear he just likes doing it and would rather I just chat while he does the work). This usually consists of some sort of pasta/rice side concoction. Without electricity, we can’t keep anything that needs to be refrigerated so our cabinets are stocked with rice sides, freeze-dried meals, cans of sweet corn, soup, pasta and bread for PB&Js. After dinner we have a lot of free time on our hands and have taken to games of Battleship, playing cards, looking at maps to plan out our next route, drinking whiskey out of tin coffee cups, reading, and telling ghost stories.
