Joshua Tree, CA

On a bit of a whim we decided to head to Joshua Tree to spend some time doing drugs… I’m just kidding. We didn’t do any drugs, we did go to Joshua Tree National Park. I’m actually kind of embarrassed by this but prior to us getting there, I didn’t know it was a National Park. But we stopped at the visitor’s center and asked a few questions. We were only planning to drive through, so the guy gave us some highlights to hit. I’ll say this, he stressed “hot” and “no water” a lot. Oh, and another embarrassing thing, I didn’t know “Joshua Tree” was in reference to an actual type of tree. I just thought it was like “a tree” named Joshua Tree from a long time ago… or something like… I don’t know what I thought it as really. but hey… it’s about learning…

image-3-copyI’m going to try to let the pictures do most of the talking but my quick overview is that Joshua Tree is the type of place that makes you feel like you’re on another planet… especially in the less popular areas. The areas you just kind of drive through. We saw a lot of Joshua Trees (obviously), we also saw cacti, rock formations, rock climbers, and lands that looked completely barren…

It as really a great day to just relax, stop for lunch, and drive through, what Tara and I have come to consider “the forgotten national park.” It may not be forgotten, and you hear “Joshua Tree” all the time, but not Joshua Tree National Park. It was a beautifully quiet, sparse, less crowded park, and Tara and I really enjoyed it.

Plus, it was on the way to Salvation Mountain, Slab City and East Jesus. These were our real destinations.
