Our final stop: Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee

It was a short 3 hour drive from Chattanooga to Gatlinburg, through Pigeon Forge (or what Derek kept referring to as “the place with all the goofy shit”), and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which sits on both the statelines of Tennessee and North Carolina. We decided this would be the last place for us to really camp and unwind for a bit before heading home, and it was the perfect place to do just that. There are tons of hiking trails in the Smokies, the Appalachian Trail being one of them, but we weren’t looking to do any crazy hikes and really just wanted to relax and do a whole lot of nothing.

thumb_dsc04543_1024thumb_dsc04531_1024We spent the days outside, at our campsite right by the side of the river, enjoying the fall weather while Murph played in the leaves, caught up on the blog and reading, cooked good meals (or Derek did at least), spent our nights by the fire, and made the most of living in our little camper for a bit longer.

Tomorrow we’ll drive north for as long as we can, probably break up the drive with a night camped at a Walmart, and make the final push from there. See you soon Massachusetts!
