About Us

And so the adventure begins…

Over the last few years, we’ve had this growing itch to travel, to break away from the mold and take a step back from the 40 hour work week and to figure out what really makes us happy. We would stumble across stories of other couples who shared that same urge, who had taken the plunge, sold all their stuff that they didn’t really need anyways, and jumped in their cars to explore the outdoors or bought a one way ticket to see what it could be like to live someplace different. The more stories like this we read, the deeper the itch grew. Life’s short, so why not? But could we really just up and leave everything and chance it? The way we saw it, if we didn’t go through with it, odds are we’d be buying a house in the suburbs soon and starting a family, which all sounds pretty good to us. We would be happy with that. But we knew it would only be a matter of time until that itch would start nagging at us again and we’d be left wondering.  Instead, we’ve decided to bite the bullet and stay true to one of the vows we made to each other when we got married: to create a life we could look back on and be proud of – one full of love, laughter, adventure, and without what ifs.

So in less than two weeks, after having quit our jobs, sold our furniture, broken the lease on our apartment in South Boston, and reluctantly saying goodbyes to our family and friends, we’ll pack up our truck, tell Murphy to jump in the backseat, and start off on a road trip for the next few months to explore, hike, camp, slow travel across the country and to be outdoors for more than a few hours at a time each day. We’ll be posting on this blog to keep everyone updated on our whereabouts, and mostly so that when our nieces and nephews are wondering where Uncle DerBear and Auntie Tawa are, they’ll be able to see a few pictures of us and what we’ve been up to, and hopefully end up going on adventures like this of their own someday.
